In normal operation, the Scout is disarmed using the app, or by pressing the button on the Scout with the Knog Mobile app is open and the paired iPhone is within close range.If the user doesn’t have their phone on hand, they will ordinarily be unable to disarm the Scout.
However, selecting the ‘Allow Emergency Disarm Without Phone’ will enable an option for the Scout to be disarmed by holding it upside down while the button is held for 20 seconds (with firmware 1.1.3 or newer). The alarm will be triggered as part of this operation. The idea is that this would be inconvenient - so it is not a great way to disarm a Scout for a would-be bike thief, but it is an available back in the instance of a lost or stolen phone.
